why africa

‘‘Everyone lives with a different burden on their heart ~ ours is Africa!  We know we can’t change a continent that’s not ours, it has to come from the people.  And, the stats prove that what we’ve tried in the past isn’t working.”

~ Eric Byington, CLD Relief Team

We would like to tell you first hand -- the money doesn’t necessarily get to the most destitute people, ARV drugs don’t get to the poorest Africans, food aid is dropped into IDP camps that cause all the hungry rebel soldiers to attack.  Financial support alone corrupts these nations.

Come Let’s Dance exists to combat the statistics --

  • Nearly 90% of new child HIV infections occur in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Less than 10 percent of children orphaned and made vulnerable by AIDS are receiving some kind of public support.
  • One widely available drug, cotrimoxazole, can nearly halve child deaths from HIV/AIDS. The drug costs as little as three U.S. cents a day. But only 1 percent of children who need it have access to it.

In Uganda -- CLD‚s primary country of operation:

  • Malaria remains the largest single cause of child mortality in Uganda.
  • As many as 1 million children in Uganda alone are orphaned from the AIDS crisis.
  • As many as 200,000 children under the age of 14 are diagnosed with HIV/AIDS in Uganda.
  • A 20-year armed conflict in northern Uganda has displaced 935,000 children from their homes into approximately 230 camp settlements.

“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”
- Anne Frank, Diary of a Young Girl, 1952
